Searching for a Lost Identity

Project of revival of the Sokol Hall supported by the EEA and Norway Grants 2014 - 2021 within the Culture Programm

What can you look forward to?
Open and used different spaces of the Sokol Hall (Sokolovna) and the revitalisation of not only this cultural monument but also its immediate surroundings. We are preparing various exhibitions, installations, meeting spaces, discussions and much more.

 When?
The project runs from May 2022 to April 2024

 What is included?

Stories of a Lost Identity
We invite you to places that have remained hidden until now. A permanent exhibition called Stories of a Lost Identity will connect the axis of the building literally from the basement or better, well to the attic. Gradually, it will give a glimpse into the original landscape, the history of the building and the period when traditional industries flourished the most. We will be focused also on the whole area of Tyršovy Sady.

 A Found Identity
Temporary exhibitions resulting from artist residencies by emerging and established artists, students and art school graduates. In the academic year 2022/23, students from the Faculty of Architecture at Technical University of Liberec will start this part of the project by working on two assignments - art in public space, focusing on the site of the adjacent park and the space of the Sokol Hall. The public presentation of the works will be followed by a residency of 4 art school graduates who will create a site-specific installation in collaboration with local companies.

 What's next?
At the end of the project there will be a well-equipped multifunctional hall available for regular teaching and educational programmes, seminars and exhibitions. There will be a relaxing space and a seating for visitors in the entrance foyer, which will serve as a Sokol information centre and a small cafeteria with refreshments available.

The Searching for a Lost Identity project has succeeded in managing, protecting and preserving cultural heritage and has a big goal - to bring more life to the Sokol Hall space and open up its history, present and future to all who are interested.

The project was unveiled in September 2022 as a part of the Day of Architecture.
